  Thallus cream-coloured to pale brown, irregularly convex, 0.3–1.8 mm thick, deeply cracked and areolate, unevenly verruculose, to 12 cm wide; soredia and isidia absent; prothallus not apparent. Photobiont cells 9–15 µm wide. Apothecia sessile, irregularly ±rounded to auriculate, scattered or crowded, 0.5–1.8 (–3.0) mm wide; disc glossy, epruinose, plane to convex; margin thin, entire, cream-coloured to brown-black, ±persistent, but typically becoming inconspicuous in older apothecia. Exciple colourless to brown, K–. Epihymenium 10–15 µm thick, yellow-brown, K–. Hymenium 35–45 µm thick, colourless to pale brown, K–. Hypothecium colourless, 35–75 µm thick, K–; subhypothecium colourless, to 35 µm thick, K+ yellow → red. Paraphyses sparingly branched, 1.5–2.5 µm thick; apices slightly swollen, 2.5–3.5 µm thick. Asci 30–40 × 8–12 µm. Ascospores oblong-ellipsoidal, 7–12 × 3–4 µm. Conidia filiform, 15–22 × c. 0.8 µm.
CHEMISTRY: Cortex K+ yellow; medulla K–, C–, P–; containing baeomycesic acid (major), squamatic acid (minor), barbatic acid (trace).
     
  Scattered in S.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas; occurs mainly on sandstone rocks in open, eucalypt forest. Endemic.
